Crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside, these Cinnamon Fried Bananas with a creamy sweet sauce make the perfect dessert or snack. Quick and easy to make, this recipe is great for busy weeknights.
Cinnamon Fried Bananas
These cinnamon fried bananas are super quick and easy to make. They’ve got the natural sweetness of banana, they’re sticky from the butter and sugar and caramelised from gently being cooked…shall I go on…?!!
As sweet treats go, these are right up there :)
Frying bananas in butter gives you the most amazing caramelised flavor, these are usually dessert in our house but they could be a special breakfast or afternoon snack.
You could also try slicing the bananas into disc banana slices instead of cutting them lengthways, this is better for smaller kids.

I’ve used maple syrup in the sauce but you could use honey, golden brown cinnamon bananas lend themselves to pretty much anything sweet, so honey and Maple syrup both work well, use whatever you have to hand.
Bananas For Frying
If you’re someone who’s read my blog before you’ll know I’m a huge fan of overripe bananas. However…for frying you want your bananas to be ripe, but not over ripe. Fussy, huh?! The reason for this is because if they’re too ripe they’re just going to turn to mush in the pan and they cook, and a ripe but not too ripe banana keeps it’s shape better.
The heat from cooking the fruit softens the banana and so it’s not so important to make sure they’re not hard. My kids are, as one put it years ago, very not fans of hard bananas, so this recipe, being cooked, ensures softness!

What Happens When You Fry Bananas?
When you cook a banana it’s natural sugars start to caramelize and the flavor becomes more intense. Being cooked in butter helps this process to happen and you get a sticky crust on the outside and soft gooey banana on the inside.
If you haven’t fried a banana before, do it now, you’re seriously missing out!
Can You Make Fried Bananas Ahead?
You can cook your bananas ahead of time and then reheat them, however, I prefer to cook and serve these fresh. If you’re reheating fried banana you won’t get the crisp caramelised outside back, the flavor will be there but the crunch will not!
If you want to make them ahead though, as soon as they’ve cooled down pop them onto a plate in the fridge, uncovered, and then reheat then in the microwave for 30-60 seconds until they’re heated all the way through.
You can easily make the sauce ahead of time and it’ll keep in the fridge in an airtight jar for 3 days.
What To Serve With Fried Bananas
There’s a whole host of things that go SO WELL with these bananas. I’ve added this cinnamon sauce and that’s where the cinnamon flavor comes from, but you could also sprinkle the cinnamon on the banana when it’s in the pan (turn the heat to low as cinnamon catches quick!) and then add one of these instead of the sauce:
- Ice cream – If you have a batch of (also banana!) homemade Clean eating ice cream in the freezer, it goes like magic with these fried bananas
- Pancakes – Keep the sauce and add the bananas to a couple of pancakes or wrap the bananas in crepes and cover in the cinnamon sauce
- Try a dollop of Yogurt on top for some added goodness
- Granola – Throw a spoonful of Granola on top for some crunch!
- Nuts – I’ve chopped some Walnuts on mine here, if your kids like and can eat nuts they go really well
