Clean Eating Blueberry Banana Bread that is made with 100% wholewheat flour and only 4 tablespoons of unrefined sugar (honey this time). It’s an easy to make loaf that’s perfect for school lunches and freezes beautifully too.
Banana bread is an all time family favorite round here. I actually get excited when the bananas get those little brown spots because that’s when they are all sweet and mushy – perfect for this recipe. It’s a great way to use up those sad looking bananas that the kids bring home in the lunch box too. Because that happens more often than I’d like.

Money Saving Tip
If you are a lover of all things banana, then you know it sucks when bananas go out of season and their price sky rockets to ‘no way am I spending that much on bananas’ kind of thing. Try this little Money Saving Tip that I use all the time.
When your local store reduces their old bananas (because they are a bit too ripe for everyone else), buy a stack of them. When you get home, peel and slice all the bananas into 1 inch slices. Pack them into freezer bags and freeze. When you want to use them for recipes simply thaw (or use frozen for banana ice cream and smoothies)

Blueberry Banana Bread (Gluten Free Options)
This is an easy, never fail recipe that the kids go crazy for. I’ve had success replacing up to half the wholewheat flour with oat bran, but too much resulted in a flat loaf. If you are wanting to bake a full Gluten free version I recommend using Gluten Free flour.
The Sugar Thing
I know I mention it often, but if you follow the blog, you know that our family still eats Sugar. This recipe calls for honey instead of sugar. But feel free to swap out the honey for a sweetener of your choice.

Ingredients
- 3 ripe bananas to make up around 1 cup mashed banana
- 2 eggs lightly beaten
- ½ cup full fat plain greek yogurt I use one little yogurt pot of 120 g
- 4 Tablespoons of honey
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 ½ cups 100% whole wheat flour
- 1 cup blueberries fresh or frozen
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350'F / 180'C
- Prepare a loaf pan by greasing sides or lining with baking paper.
- In a mixing bowl, mash bananas. Mix in the eggs, yogurt, honey, vanilla.
- Add baking soda to the mixture.
- Fold in flour and mix together (just until mixed)
- Add blueberries by gently fold through. Don't over mix as the batter turns mighty blue and ends up looking like something out of the Smurfs Movie.
- Pour the batter into prepped loaf pan.
- Bake for about 50 - 60 mins, or until a toothpick comes out clean from the middle of the bread. (Check regularly from around 50 minutes as some ovens may cook differently). My oven takes a full 65 minutes to bake my loaf.
- Allow to cool for at least 15 - 20 minutes before serving.
Notes
- If you're using frozen blueberries, wait for them to thaw and drain away an excess moisture.
- Use baking paper to line your loaf tray as it makes it easy to remove from loaf pan to place on a cooling wrack.
