Sometime you want something to snack on or have as a side that’s healthy, easy and you know no one’s going to complain about. Well, here it is. This easy Tzatziki dip (pronounced sat-see-ki) is our Clean eating, healthy version of the classic Greek sauce, popular in many parts of the Mediterranean. It’s easy to see why: It’s a fresh, creamy, goes-with-everything-kind of dip. And the kids go crackers for it!
Is Tzatziki Sauce Healthy?
Tzatziki is a very healthy dip. Greek yogurt is high in protein, low is salt and can be quite easy on your stomach. Traditionally, this Greek Sauce is made with Dill but I always have mint growing in the garden, so in our home the recipe has slowly evolved to include mint instead.
This Cucumber Dip is very handy. We eat it on its own, use it as a dip, dollop it on top of beef or chicken wraps and as a side for Curry. Right now I’m actually thinking how good it would be spooned onto a baked potato. There’s no overpowering flavors here, so it’s a great for smaller kids with some crackers.
What To Serve With Tzatziki Dip
Depending on how you’re going to use this Tzatziki dip, you can dice the cucumber to the size you prefer.
For chunkier diced cucumber pieces you could serve:
- Breadsticks
- Crackers
- Raw vegetable sticks
- On baked potatoes
For smaller cucumber pieces you could have this with:
- As a side for your curry
- Wedges (our go to!)
- In wraps
- On grilled steak or chicken
- As a potato salad sauce
How Long Does Tzatziki Last?
Once you’ve made up this dip, it’ll keep well, covered, in the fridge for 2 days. The sooner you eat it, the fresher it tastes ands since it’s so easy to put together, I usually make this as and when we want it rather than making ahead.
I also sometime put this dip in small pots like these and put it in the kids lunchboxes. I either give them some raw carrot sticks to dip in it, crackers, or breadsticks. If you want to pack this dip for lunch, keep it in the fridge and pack it up in the morning and it’ll still be cool by lunchtime.
Can You Freeze Tzatziki?
You can freeze this Tzatziki dip, but the consistency totally changes. The extra water content from freezing things out the dip and it becomes a lot runnier and more runny sauce than dip.
I don’t now freeze this for that reason, we love the creaminess and thickness of the dip and being able to scoop it up on the end of a cracker.
