This healthy creamy avocado sauce is so good, you’ll be eating it on everything and so easy it takes just a few minutes to whip up a fresh batch.
Creamy Avocado Sauce Recipe
Most avocado sauce recipes I’ve made in the past have some sort of chilli in them but I’ve kept this one chilli free, since the kids prefer it less spicy. We eat this with nachos, chicken, fish, as a salad dressing and very often as a dip.
If avocados are on offer in the store, I tend to stock up. They can be a little pricy where I am {if you’re where they grow, I’m totally jealous!} and sometimes we end up with some very very ripe Avocados, and this is what I do with them. Creamy, delicious and indulgent. And Clean and healthy.
This avocado sauce is vegan and if you’re an avocado lover, you’re going to love this recipe.
*You can add some Cayenne pepper to this recipe after you’ve made it if you prefer your with a little more kick!
What’s Avocado Sauce Made Of?
Well, naturally avocados are the star of the show here. And really, there’s very little else involved.
I use lime juice for two reasons: the first being a super fresh flavour, and the second being that the antioxidants in citrus fruit keep the avocado from browning and act as a Real food natural preservative.
I use Greek yogurt to thin the sauce, and then a pinch of sea salt to season. A little parsley finishes this sauce and it’s good to go.
Does Avocado Sauce Turn Brown?
Citrus fruits naturally contain strong antioxidants and is one of the reasons most creamy avocado sauce recipes use it. You can make it without, but the citrus really lifts the flavour. Being a Real food natural preservative, the best you’re likely to get is 48 hours at a push before this sauce starts to turn brown, but trust me, it’s never hung around that long in our house.
If you’re going to want to keep the avocado sauce for a day or two, don’t skip the lime juice.
I tend to make a fresh batch every time we’re going to have it, so the avocado browning isn’t something I think about much. I’m pretty sure you’ll find it goes rather fast in your house too!
Oil free Avocado Dressing
This avocado sauce also makes the most amazing oil free dressing. You can add a little extra water to thin this sauce even more and make it easier to use as a salad dressing. It becomes almost like an avocado cream sauce version of Caesar salad dressing, and we use it the same way.

You need to use really ripe avocados for this recipe. The riper the better! I use this blender to make everything like this, sauces, smoothies and grinding flours. It’s way easier to clean than my ‘big’ blender and doesn’t take up loads of room on my counter.
