Today I’m going bananas over a this recipe that’s not only delicious but also healthy. If you’re like us and have a few sweet teeth in your house, these Healthy Banana Bars will be your new best friend!
Healthy Banana Bars
These bars are so easy to make, you definitely don’t need to be a Master Chef to whip them up. They’re made with just FOUR simple, wholesome ingredients that will satisfy those sweet cravings without any guilt. Plus, they’re perfect for breakfast, as a mid-day snack or as a sweet treat after dinner.
We often have bananas in the kitchen that haven’t been used up and are overripe. And sometimes I let them get this way deliberately because they make the BEST ingredient in baking, adding banana-y sweetness whilst working as a binder for a whole load of things.
So I’d made these brilliant Blueberry Snack Bars and had one banana left. And lots of mess already made and ingredients hanging about. So I figured I’d make these and now I think i’m going to be making them all the time!
Super sweet, soft bars of deliciousness, these were going to go into tomorrows lunchboxes but the recipe only made 6 bars (and even then they weren’t huge) and so now they’re all gone. I guess I was lucky to get some photos at least!
Banana Bar Ingredients
When I say simple, I mean just FOUR ingredient simple. They take seconds to whip up, the most labor intensive it gets is mashing a banana and then the oven does the rest. And for just 15 minutes. Your house will smell like a sweet shop, with the smell of warm honey luring the kids into the kitchen.
For something so crazily simple, these are a dream.
Banana
I used one banana as that’s what I had left. Of course you can double or triple this recipe, just make sure the bananas are super ripe. The amount of brown spots your bananas have on them is an indicator of how sweet they are, the browner, the better!
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is used in masses of the baking I do, it’s higher in protein than other grains and so keeps the kids going for longer. I used steel cut oats as they’re the least processed.
Honey
Honey and banana is a match made in heaven and so I chose this over Maple syrup to make these. However, you can substitute for Maple syrup if that’s what you have, keep the quantity the same.
