There are two ways to make these delicious apple cinnamon scrolls. You can keep it 100% Clean and stick to the recipe or you can sprinkle a little runny icing over them at the end. I tend to keep them Clean 90% of the time and the rest of the time as a treat, add a little icing. Either way, they are delicious and you only need 5 everyday ingredients to make them.

Apple And Cinnamon Scrolls
Eating Clean does not mean going without some old favorites and these apple cinnamon scrolls are a good example of one of the foods we all used to love and bought frequently from the bakery, and adapted once we committed to eating Clean. We didn’t quit all sugars and you can read about why, here.
Apples and cinnamon as a combination feature pretty often in this house. They’re loved by all of us (no mean feat in itself!) and you can use this combo in so many things. If you’re also an apple and cinnamon fan and I’m guessing you are since you’re here, try these fruit leathers, this apple crumble or these apple slices. My kids would happily take any single one of these snacks any day of the week!
I make these on a semi regular basis, by which I mean every couple of months or so. They’re delicious, they’re a crowd pleaser and best of all, they’re really very easy to make. I don’t use yeast to proof the dough and use flour with baking powder instead, so the proofing time is cut out straight away. If you want a treat to make for the kids that’s not as processed as the store bought version but just as yummy, definitely give these a try!
Ingredients
Apples – Fresh apples are always in demand in our home, so I normally use a canned variety when I need apples for a recipe like this. Canned Apples are a pantry staple for me. Check the ingredients on the can – it should be 100% Apples.
Of course, you can use fresh apples, but it using tinned apples makes this quicker and as long as the apples are not canned in anything else, you’re still getting all the apple-y goodness.
Flour – I use Einkorn flour for this recipe, and add baking powder if the flour isn’t already self-raising (doesn’t have the baking powder already added).
Einkorn flour is really good in baking. It’s a Cleaner choice of flour, it stays light in baking and is a little less dense than some other Cleaner flours.
Maple Syrup – I always have a good stock of Maple syrup and use it in varying quantities in both baking and cooking. I find the kids have got to used to the sweetness Maple syrup adds, even though it’s way less sweet than refined sugar.
How To Store Sticky Scrolls
Seriously, I’ve never made a batch of these and expected to have any left within a few hours of them coming out of the oven. The kids, in fact all of us know, they’ll be gone so take what you want while they’re there so it’s a case of once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Should you find yourself in the strange position of having to store these, they keep well in an airtight container for up to 3 days. They won’t be as fresh and soft as they are straight from the oven, but they’re good for up to 3 days. If you want to make them softer, you can warm them in a hot oven for a few minutes before you eat them.
If you’re going to use a little runny icing sugar on these, I’d recommend doing this right before you eat them.
