April fools may be silly but we all need a little bit of 'silly' every now and again. Especially if you are a Mom. Us Moms need to remind our kids that Mom can be fun too.
I'm not saying you should hot glue gun the furniture to the ceiling, I'm just suggesting you infuse a little bit nonsense into the day. Last year, April Fools fell over Easter, but this year, it's a regular Monday. Which is why I forgot all about it.
This morning, between school lunches, a loose button and wet school shoes (it rained over night and somebody - not mentioning names - left their shoes on the deck), I almost decided to just ignore the fact that it was April Fools and just go on with my jolly day. Almost.
Except that I happened to have a bag of fake cockroaches in my desk drawer. Coincidence? I think not. They were supposed to be for Halloween, but my eBay order arrived three months too late which means they've just been sitting there... waiting for today.
Obviously, I sent my kids off to school with an intrusion (this is the actual collective noun for a group of the little crawlies} fake cockroaches crammed between their sandwiches this morning. Except it's now 2.28pm. They've had morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Plenty of time to discover the small population of critters in their lunchboxes.
And yet .... I've heard nothing. No texts, no calls. Complete radio silence. Not even an eye-rolling emoji (is that a thing?).
So now I'm starting to wonder - did they even find them? And I hope they didn't eat them. Surely not. Surely...
Perhaps it just wasn't a good enough prank. Hmm. And that got me thinking and plotting. I'm going to up my game next time with one {or all} of these April Fools Day Fake out Foods. {UPDATE: They LOVED Them!! Two out of three got an actual fright at lunch. I'm counting that as a April Fools Prank win!!}.
