Welcome to DAY 11 of my 21 Day Free Printables Series! Cut out and keep 5-a-day pocket trackers to help your kids keep on track with their 5 a day of fruits and veggies.
I know it can be hard to get your kids eating their 5-a-day of fruit and veg. And you are not alone. The most recent National Diet and Nutrition Survey found only eight per cent of children aged 11 to 18 years met the 5-a-day recommendation.
Make Healthy Eating Fun
Kids learn the most when you figure out a way to make it fun. Teaching kids to make healthy choices becomes a whole lot easier when you’re not fighting about it. These 5-a-day mini pocket trackers are all about teaching kids to be aware of the fruit and veggies they are (or aren’t) eating.
What counts as 5-a-day?
It isn’t always easy knowing what counts as a portion of fruit and veggies. Portion sizes change depending on the size or age of the child or adult, so one serving for a toddler is not the same as one serving for a teenager. To keep it simple, I use the hand measuring method.
Cup your hand. The amount of fruit or veggies it would take to full your cupped hand is roughly one serve. Because our hands grow with us, it’s a useful (and quick) way to measure our portions.
How to Use the 5-a-Day Pocket Trackers
Print, cut along the dotted lines and pop a mini tracker into your child’s lunchbox or pocket. They color or cross one fruit or vegetable off the list every time the eat a serve. Simple. The Goal is to cross them all off every day.
