These Pear and Cinnamon muffins are just the ticket when the weather’s getting colder and you need a snack to warm you up. They’re packed with fresh Pear and get a health boost from Oatmeal and wholegrain flour. Eat them hot from the oven or pop one into a lunchbox for a snack to keep the kids going in the afternoon.
Pear And Cinnamon Muffins
If you love the light sweetness of pears, you’re going to love these Pear and Cinnamon muffins. They’re a classic Clean eating muffin mix but packed this time with fresh pear and lots of cinnamon.
These are so easy to make, I often make a batch of these tom pop in the oven after I’ve cooked dinner so I’m making the most of the oven being hot. They take about 5 minutes to get the mix together and just 12 minutes to cook. Sometimes we have these straight from the oven, hot with custard. They make a delicious pudding on those cold days, but they’re just as good in a lunchbox the following day.
What Makes These Muffins Healthy?
I like to make these during Fall and Winter, as they’ve got a Winter feel to them. Your house is filled with the delicious smell of cinnamon and baking and it’s hard not to get hungry while these are cooking :)
I write a post on immunity boosting foods for kids and these are one of the recipes I put together when I was trying to add immunity boosting foods into the kids diets. Cinnamon is great, as are whole-grains and oatmeal. As many many parents will tell you, kids and muffins go hand in hand and so if you can add the good stuff into a muffin, you’re half way there!
I like using fresh fruit in baking, and I use yummy ripe pears here which in themselves, while adding a light sweetness, have their own array of vitamins packed into them.

Oats And Wholegrain Flour
I use a mixture of wholemeal flour and oatmeal. For the main muffin recipe I whizz the oatmeal in the blender so it’s a flour. I’ve used Spelt wholemeal flour in this recipe here, it has a lovely dark color and adds a slightly nutty flavor to the muffins.
You can use 100% Oatmeal or 100% wholegrain flour if you like, it won’t change the recipe at all, I just prefer to get as much variety as possible into my baking and so I’ve done half and half. Do what works for you. I add a heaped teaspoon of baking powder to these to make them rise, it can be quite hard to find self raising whole grain flours here sometimes, so simply add some baking powder to make up for this.
Cinnamon And Pears
Cinnamon goes so well with so many things. I use cinnamon all the time and get through a spice jar of it at least once a month. Smoothies, dinners, baking, cinnamon goes in often! It’s full of nutrients and has been around since 2800BC. So it’s tried and tested :)
Fresh pears add something special. I wash but don’t peel these pears. I really like the slight reddish color of these pears and besides, the peel of fruit can be really high in anti oxidants and so it stays on for these. Once these muffins are cooked, the pear becomes super soft and the ‘bits’ are not really noticeable, so unless you’ve got a super sensitive kid, they won’t notice the peel!
Storing Cinnamon And Pear Muffins
Once these muffins are cooked and cooled, you can keep them for up to 3 days in an airtight container. They’re nice and moist thanks to the pears and they’ll stay good for a few days.
Do These Muffins Freeze Well?
If you want to freeze these, the good news is they freeze really well. Freeze them as soon as they’re cooled down, and they can stay in the freezer for up to a month. When you wan to defrost these, just take them out of the freezer and leave them out (covered) overnight and in the morning they’ll be ready to go.
If you want to eat them sooner, leave them for a few hours out to defrost a little and then pop them into the microwave for 30 seconds, check it, and give it another 30 seconds if it needs it.
