A Dark chocolate Smoothie. Oh my, oh my, oh my. A magical match made in Heaven. This super healthy smoothie tastes a lot like a rich dessert but it’s good for you! A great way to start the morning or …. why not skip the crappy evening snack and indulge in this fruity choc smoothie for a healthy after dinner dessert.
Dark Chocolate Smoothie
Our family isn’t on top of their morning game at the moment. The mornings are colder and it gets dark in the evenings as soon as the sun hits the horizon. Our natural urge to sleep is kicking in – big time! I think we were a family of bears in a former life.
Getting up in the morning is a struggle. Not gonna lie to you, this morning I seriously contemplated letting them all stay home from school because I just did not feel like getting up to make school lunches.
Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie
Now if you haven’t been introduced to the breakfast smoothie, then you, my Mommy friend, are going to love me!
Smoothies have transformed my school week mornings. A healthy breakfast can take all of 1 minute to pull together and another minute and a bit to drink. And …. if you are really stuck for time, you can pour it into a wide mouthed smoothie drink bottle and the kids can slurp it down in the car.
We get extra mileage from ours because the kids rinse them out and refill with water at school. If you have smaller kids and are you are a regular in the car smoothie slurping family, then take a look at a reusable stainless steel smoothie cups, they’re perfect for spill free car travel.
We have a few regulars that everyone enjoys like the Basic Green Smoothie and the Pink Raspberry Smoothie. But feel free to play around with what you’ve got in the kitchen too. The key to a good smoothie is not to add too many different flavors. Try stick to 4 – 5 ingredients per smoothie, no more.
Smoothie Meal Prep Tricks
- The secret to a quick morning smoothie is to make sure you have all the ingredients on hand.
- Chop and peel overripe bananas and keep them in a Tupperware in the freezer so it’s easy to grab a few slices when needed.
- Frozen fruit is available all year and not restricted to Season. Keep a couple bags in the freezer and stock up when fruit is in season.
- Invest in a good quality blender. It doesn’t have to be super pricey, but it does need a good size engine. You want something that can puree frozen fruit and vegetables without leaving chunks at the bottom. Nobody likes that (specially the fussy ones). Vitamix is brilliant and well worth the investment, but if it’s a little out your price range then take a look at the Ninja Professional Blender.
- For an extra health boost, consider adding a couple of spoons of superfood smoothie greens. It’s a fantastically sneaky way to get a nutritional top up into your kids diet.
