Up until a few years ago, I was not a Valentines Day fan. In fact, I was the Scrooge of Valentine. It was a day I simply ignored on my calendar. If I could have slept through the entire day, I would have.
What?! But Why?
I’m sure you are wondering how anyone can dislike a day of love and pinkness – so I’ll tell you the dark truth behind all this emotion.
I remember being about 12 years old. At School. On Valentines Day. The Valentines gifts would start filtering through the ranks. My friends would get a few each. But not me. Never me. I was that kid that never got a Valentine anything. I’m sure I wasn’t the only kid, but it sure felt like it.
This isn’t a sad story.
You see, I eventually figured out what Valentines Day is all about. It took me a long time, but I got there.
It’s not about waiting around for someone to bring you a Valentine something or other. Oh no! It’s a day that you get to GIVE a little love. And the more love you give, the more love you feel.
It’s so super simple.
If someone had shared this little secret with 12 year old me, it would have been a different kind of memory. I would have been making so many people feel loved.
But opportunity is not lost because Valentines Day comes around every year.
I know we don’t need a special day to show our love, but sometimes life gets a little busy and we forget to put aside the time to show a few special people that we care.
You don’t have to go overboard. Just hug a little longer. Make the call you’ve been meaning to make. Pop a flower in the lunch box.
It’s always the little things.
And if you are still can’t figure out what to do this Valentines – then I can help.
