Looking for an alternative to tortilla wraps? Try this simple healthy egg wrap recipe (do eggs make a ‘recipe’? Hmmm) They’re kid friendly and quick to put together even on the busiest mornings.
Healthy Egg Wraps
I’ve called this a healthy egg wrap recipe, although I’m not sure something that contains just eggs can be called a recipe but hey, it’s going right down there with egg recipes!
Anyway either way, these are such a great change from the usual tortilla wraps we all know and love! Not only are they super simple to make, but eggs cook so fast they’re great for those busy mornings that seem to happen a lot of the time.
You can put anything you like in these, from leftovers to something more elaborate (there’s a few ideas below). We like to make these into classic breakfast wraps: You already have the egg in the wrap, so we lie to add some sliced sausage, bacon and cheese. Give the kids a little tomato sauce to dip these into and you’ll have some happy bunnies at breakfast time :)
—>>Egg Wrap Filling Ideas Here!
Being a heavy protein kinda food, eggs are going to keep little tummies going for the morning. I know some Moms struggle to get the kids to eat scrambled eggs and so these might just do the trick. The kids are more concerned about the fillings than they are the wrap. The wraps seen as the ‘holder’ for the goodies inside. And that suits me just fine!
One egg is all I use per wrap. My crepe pan is 8inches in diameter and one egg gives you a lovely thin wrap. I prefer to keep the wraps super thin. They’re strong enough to be picked up once they’re filled, and since eggs rise a little during cooking, getting as little egg mixture as possible into the pan to create the wrap means they’re not too thick.
I use a crepe pan to make my egg wraps, and I also use a crepe spreader to help make the wraps thin. While you don’t have to use a spreader, it is easier, although you could use a rubber spatula to spread the egg around the pan. I highly recommend using a crepe pan though, it’s strangely hard to use a regular frying pan and get the same results. Go figure!

Tips And Tricks To Get Perfect Wraps
These are so easy to make, but since I like to make them super thin, mainly so they don’t rise too much and so they act more like a wrap than an omelette, there’s a couple things you can do to get these perfect every time:
- Whisk the egg really, really well. Not only do you get an even color and not a marbled effect wrap, but I’ve found I can use very little egg mixture and get an even wrap
- Using a crepe spreader to spread the mixture around the pan helps with the overall evenness
- I add a tiny knob of butter to the pan and let it melt before cooking the wrap. This adds to the flavor, and even if you’re using a non stick pan, adding a little butter makes these super easy to flip
- Let the egg wrap cook for 30 seconds or so and then use a silicone spatula to gently work the mixture off the pan and then flip it over and cook for another 30 seconds
Can You Make These Wraps Ahead Of Time?
You absolutely can make these ahead of time, you simply make the whole wraps in full and then stack them on a plate, cover them in food wrap and keep them in the fridge for up to two days.
To reheat them, just pop them into the microwave for 30 seconds until they’re soft and pliable again and then use them as you would if you’d just made them. I’ve not found a stack of these stick together when you cool and store them, so I don’t add any parchment paper between them.

I haven’t tried freezing these although I suspect they’d freeze just fine in your freezer. Why haven’t I tried freezing them? It seems like a lot more hassle than making them from scratch! They take so little time to make that having to thaw them and then reheat them would be adding unnecessary steps. Feel free to try and let me know how it goes!
Are Egg Wraps Healthy?
Eggs are super healthy.
They come and go in and out of fashion, but ultimately, they’re pockets of gold in as far as feeding your kids go. Being full of protein, they’ll keep you going for hours as well as being delicious. And when you compare having eggs for breakfast with those bright store bought cereals aimed at kids that contain crazy amounts of sugar, you really can’t go wrong with an egg!
What To Put In Your Egg Wraps
There’s an almost endless combination of things you can put in your egg wraps. From the simple to the more elaborate, you can put anything you like in these.
Here are some of our favorite fillings and variations:
- Cheddar cheese – add some shredded cheese to your wrap and roll it up. Quick, simple and very kid friendly. You could also try adding mozzarella cheese
- Avocado and bacon – a piece of crispy bacon and some thinly sliced avocado makes a very yummy wrap combo the kids love!
- Cream cheese and spinach – wilt some spinach, mix with cream cheese and mix together before spreading on your wrap and rolling up
- Bell pepper and feta cheese – cooked bell peppers and crumbled feta cheese make a great filling and a good way to use up leftover cooked peppers
- Veggies – any leftover veggies you have can be used as a filling for these wraps
- Potatoes – pre cooked, thinly sliced potato with some cooked onion makes a filing wrap. We have these sometimes for supper as well as breakfast and they’re super filling
