Dressings are one of my favourite things to make and this easy Maple Balsamic dressing (with no mustard) is one I use all the time. It’s fast and easy and I always feel like I’ve gone that extra mile when I add a homemade salad dressing to the table. Plus it saves me buying them too. I don’t like spending money on things that I know I can make at home with ingredients I’ve likely already got.
Maple Balsamic Dressing
My kids love this dressing on pretty much anything green. I found that when I use spinach to replace lettuce in a salad – it goes under the radar completely when this dressing is added. It’s super easy to make and uses only three ingredients that are most probably already in your pantry.
I don’t use mustard in this recipe as it adds a ‘tang’ to the dressing that a couple of the kids dislike. The balsamic vinegar and maple syrup are a match made in heaven, they work so well together and other than a touch of oil to mellow the flavour of the balsamic, this dressing really doesn’t need anything else.
What To Eat With Maple Balsamic Dressing
Salads are the natural food to serve this dressing on, and because the kids tend to love this, it means I can sneak some veggies (or beans etc…) into salads with this on, that I’m not sure the kids would be quite so willing to try otherwise. These are some of the salads we have this on:
Ingredients
The ingredients are simple. A good quality Balsamic vinegar is essential, and I tend to get the large bottles when I see a well priced one in the shops. This organic Balsamic is a good one if you can’t find it in your local shops.
I’ve used Rice Bran oil in this, as it’s very mild tasting and doesn’t deflect from the balsamic and maple syrup, but you can use any Clean, mild tasting oil. And although it has a distinct flavor, I have used Olive oil before and the dressing is still delicious, so don’t worry too much about the oil used.
Use the Maple syrup you have for baking. The sweetness compliments the tartness of the vinegar and turns this into a dressing the kids actually eat!

To mix this dressing, I use a clean, old jam jar with a tight fitting lid, and I simply shake it up and then use the same jar to store this in the fridge for another time. It isn’t creamy so it lasts well without spoiling. I normally make up a batch as I need it, and feel confident keeping the dressing in a jar in the fridge for up to a week.
